About
Rosibel “Rosi” Hernandez was born in Mexico City, Mexico where she spent the first two years of her life. Her family then came to Los Angeles, California where she has remained for the past 22 years. Growing up in poverty, Rosi always saw the importance of education and the power it yields. With the love and support of her family, Rosi moved to the east coast to attend Yale University, graduating with a B.S in Psychology in 2010. There she continued to develop her interest for social justice and medicine. As an undergraduate student she became a patient advocate for low-income women in need of diagnostic care. As a volunteer at Haven Free Clinic, she worked as a caseworker and Spanish-English translator in the Women’s Health Referral Department. During her undergraduate career she also sought to instill a passion for learning in elementary students. She became a tutor for New Haven Reads Community Center, and spent three years providing free tutoring services to children from low-income families. Rosi is currently a first year medical student at UCLA/PRIME. There she is developing the skills necessary to become a community leader as well as a physician. She is currently the co-chair for the biannual Lennox Health Fair, the co-coordinator for the Women’s Health Selective at UCLA, as well as the financial chair for Salud y Trabajo; a PRIME Cohort 5 project working with Day Laborers in Wilmington, CA. In her free time, Rosi enjoys hiking, running, and experiencing new restaurants in LA.
