Mariela Nevarez
Mentorship Team; Medical Student Representative
About
I am a first generation Xicana from Oxnard, California (the capital of strawberries, woop woop!). I am now a second year medical student in the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science and PRIME-Leadership in Action (LA) program. With a passion for mentorship and medicine rooted in social justice, I became involved with LMSA as a Medical Student Representative and Mentorship Co-Chair. I am also involved in a few other health equity efforts on campus. I enjoy food, basketball, conversation with family and friends, and music—namely, 90s hip hop and R&B, soul, neo-soul and oldies. In the future I plan to work with historically marginalized communities, similar to the one I grew up in either in adolescent health or women’s health.
