Luz Corona Gomez
UCLA Co-Chair
About
Luz Corona Gomez grew up in Selma, California and graduated from the University of California Los Angeles, where she majored in Physiological Sciences and minored in Public Health and Chicana/o Studies. Her passion for medicine developed out of her personal experiences growing up in a farm-worker family and her volunteer work with Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine where she witnessed various social inequities. These experiences inspired her to continue working with underserved communities after graduating from UCLA. She went on to work at the local clinic in Selma on a study on diabetes and health literacy in the Latino community. Afterwards she worked as a tutor and mentor with the UCSF Doctors Academy Program in underserved schools around the San Joaquin Valley. She is currently in the UCLA PRIME program but eventually plans on returning to the San Joaquin Valley to practice.
